2.  ASH WEDNESDAY COLLECTION
This year the collection taken at all Ash Wednesday Masses will be used to support Archdiocesan Social Ministries.  Beginning the Season of Lent by recalling the needs of our neighbors and offering alms for their benefit will help ensure that we enter this penitential season with the proper disposition.  With shrinking governmental and foundation funding, the only way these social service organizations will be able to continue the level of support that is needed, is if our own archdiocesan family is generous in it contribution.  Please be assured of my deepest gratitude for your strong support of this important collection.  With prayerful best wishes for a truly spiritual Lenten season, I am Fraternally in Christ, Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston – Houston.

3.  ASH WEDNESDAY MASSES
Ash Wednesday this year is on February 17th.  This day marks the beginning of the Lenten season.  The imposition of ashes is an ancient penitential practice symbolizing our dependence upon God's mercy and forgiveness.  Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence in the Catholic Church.  The following is the schedule of Masses with distribution of ashes at the A D Bruce Religion Center in the Main Chapel: 7:00 AM, 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM.  Use UH entrance # 13 to get to the A D Bruce Religion Center.  For more information please call (713) 748 – 2529.
