1. WELCOME TONY BARRETT
The Catholic Newman Center community welcomes Tony Barrett who will make his Profession of Faith and was received into full communion in the Catholic Church on Sunday, November 22nd. Welcome Tony and we look forward to having you join us in celebrating our faith.
2. ANNUAL THANKSGIVING POTLUCK DINNER
All students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends of the UH Catholic Newman Center are invited to this year’s Annual Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner which will be held on Monday, November 23rd at 6:30 PM at the UH Catholic Newman Center. Please sign up to bring one of the following: Main Dish, Cultural Dish, Dessert and Vegetable. You may also sign up to help (this is especially good for students who cannot bring a food dish) set up or clean up. To let us know what you’ll be preparing there is a sign up board at the UH Catholic Newman Center or call us at (713) 748 - 2529. Happy Thanksgiving!
3. THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY UH CNC CLOSED
The UH Catholic Newman Center will be closed to all employees and students on Wednesday, November 25th thru Friday, November 27th, while staff is away for the Thanksgiving Holiday. The UH Catholic Newman Center will re-open Sunday, November 29th for Mass at 10:45 AM at the A.D. Bruce Religion Center and at 6:00 PM at the UH Catholic Newman Center. We will not have R.C.I.A. Class at 1:30 PM at the UH Catholic Newman Center.
4. UH HOME FOOTBALL GAME
Tailgate Party at the UH Catholic Newman Center, Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus on Saturday, November 28th at 5:00 PM. The UH Cougars will be playing cross-town rival Rice Owls at 7:00 PM so come to the UH Catholic Newman Center early and enjoy good food and company. Please contact Arjan Lim at arjan [dot] lim [at] gmail [dot] com to pre-order a tailgate meal for $5.00 a plate or to donate to the Knights of Columbus for this event. GO COOGS!
5. ADVENT RECONCILIATION SERVICE
The UH Catholic Newman Center will host an Advent Reconciliation Service on Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:00 PM. Visiting priests will be assisting with confessions. Please participate in this important preparation for Christmas.
6. SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of Obligation. Because this is the patronal feast day of the United States the obligation to attend Mass is maintained. On Tuesday, December 8th Mass will be celebrated at the A. D. Bruce Religion Center at 12 Noon in the Main Chapel.
7. A DAY OF PRAYER CREATED FOR YOU
For all single young adults, age 18 - 45. As a Christmas gift for yourself, spend a day in reflection, quiet time, prayer, Confession and Eucharistic celebration. Enter more deeply into the mystery of God who became human like us on Saturday, December 19th from 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM at Villa de Matel Dubuis Conference Center 6510 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023 (713) 928 - 6053. The keynote Speaker will be Sr. Carla Mae Streeter, O.P., Professor of Theology & Spirituality at Aquinas Institute of Theology. What does the Incarnation, the mystery of the Word, God made flesh, mean to me? How does it affect me spiritually, emotionally, and sexually? 8. JOHN MICHAEL TALBOT SOLO CONCERT “LOVE OFFERING”
The Catholic Newman Center will co-host an evening with John Michael Talbot at the Catholic Charismatic Center located at 1949 Cullen Blvd, Houston, TX 77023 on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM. More information will follow but save the date! John Michael Talbot is the founder and Minister General of the Brothers and Sisters of Charity at Little Portion Hermitage in Arkansas. The Brothers and Sisters of Charity is an integrated monastic community that includes celibate brothers & sisters, families, and singles. John Michael was one of the pioneering artists of what has become known as Contemporary Christian Music. He has received awards from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the Gospel Music Association, Mercy Corps and recently, the Mother Teresa award.
